Trip highlights
If outdoor adventure is at the top of your list, Samothrace is the right place. This small island in the beautiful country of Greece is brimming with contrasts: rugged mountains meet cascading waterfalls, long, sunny days, excellent temperatures and perfectly blue skies. This stunning Northern Greek Island is the perfect place for an unforgettable summer adventure.
We begin and end our trip in the lively city of Thessaloniki, a hopping university town one hour away from the birthplace of Aristotle and named after Alexander the Great’s sister. We will enjoy great food and a lively night scene. Optional additional free days to enjoy cultural activities, archaeological visits, culinary adventures and shopping.
Discover the amazing island of Samothrace. Referred by mythology as the island of Aeolus, Samothrace (you will also see it spelled “Samothraki”) has the highest mountain of all the Aegean islands, mount Saos, with the highest peak named ‘Feggari’ (moon) Legend has it that Poseidon sat on it’s top to watch the Trojan war. This beautiful island boasts pebbly beaches, streams and rivers, waterfalls, steep peaks and rock formations, springs with healing sources and significant archaeological finds, such as the world renown Winged Victory of Samothrace. The Winged Victory of Samothrace, also called the Nike of Samothrace, is a 2nd century B.C. Hellenistic marble sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike (Victory). Since1884 it has been prominently displayed at the Paris Louvre and is one of the most celebrated and symbolic sculptures in the world.
Walk through ancient ruins; hike up Saos Mountain; swim in the warm waters of the Mediterranean sea; descent magnificent canyons, swim in waterfalls and crystal clear natural pools. Eat local cuisine and visit picturesque villages.
